Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent)

The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) provides a pathway for qualified professionals to immigrate to Australia permanently. Applicants must demonstrate that they have a skilled occupation on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List ( see current Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List in the link below).

For this visa, applicants are assessed based on different factors, including skilled work experience, English language proficiency, age, educational qualifications, relationship status and so forth. A minimum of 65 points must be achieved on the Department of Home Affairs' points-based assessment. The higher the points score, the greater the likelihood of receiving an invitation to apply in upcoming invitation rounds.

If an Expression of Interest (EOI) is selected, the applicant will receive a formal invitation to apply for this permanent residency visa.

Meeting the eligibility requirements and demonstrating an in-demand occupation on the skills list is key to submitting a competitive EOI. Our migration experts can assist in evaluating qualifications and experience for eligibility under this visa.
